Psh food smells may be third, but not distant. Nothing tastes as good as cooking with garlic smells, basic fact of life.

No you’re right but it’s so dependent on the food, sure garlic smells amazing but neither eggs nor fish nor pasta really lives up to the smell test so it’s not as reliable!

I know what you mean. Fandom is scary sometimes.

A dreamcasting fandom confession should probably not make a person that angry. That’s all I’m saying.

Well no offense but it’s Australia, you can only make it so interesting. I definitely agree that it was the least eventful and captivating book in the series.

Fair enough. Crucible of Gold comes out soon though and it looks really exciting and action packed! So we’ll see, hopefully Novik will get her groove back!

I love that series, I wouldn’t say I hated the Australian one but it wasn’t as interesting or original as the ones that depicted the Chinese and African alternate cultures in more detail

I liked the first and the fifth the most, though I really enjoyed books two, three, and four. Thinking back, my opinion of the sixth may be just a wee bit influenced by having read it when I was sick. I still think it was boring, though.

Not horrible, but compared to the high points her writing reached in the other books, the sixth one just felt like a waste of time.

One of the Temeraire books is set in Australia so yeah they probably have dragons there(along with the Chinese trained sea serpents obviously)

Eh, only sort of, and that one was the shittiest book out of the whole series. The rest of it was really good, but that one sucked donkey dick.

worldwarlove replied to your post: The northern gods in this book (“Feast of Souls”)…

I’m not familiar with Feast of Souls, but all that comes to mind when I try to think of an inspiration for the old gods of the north is druidic worship of trees.. I don’t know all that much about druids, just that there’s trees going on.

Yeah, that’s precisely it! I’d gotten as far as celtic tree worship but thank you! Looking at the broader druidic tradition with regards to the old gods and the children of the forest is actually very fun and fascinating!

Friedman’s version has a bit more to do with her Spears and blood magic but the books have some similarities that really jump out, and drawing on druidic tradition would make sense in a number of ways!

Oh holy shit okay spoilers for up to A Dance of Dragons under the cut

Or completely inappropriate children’s rhymes.

I would create a compilation called Mother Goose’s Nursery Rhymes for Future Sluts and the illustrations would be the best part.
